An MM2H principal aged below 50 must be in Malaysia for 90 cumulative days a year, the sticker pass is renewable every five years at a fixed pass fee of RM500 a year, and work or business is not allowed on Silver, Gold or SEZ/SFZ.
This guide covers life under the pass after endorsement: the stay rule, the two renewal routes, the work and business rules by category, passport changes, termination and the death of the principal. Every figure comes from the official MM2H pages, the MOTAC conditions dated 14 June 2024, the MOTAC application guidelines booklet and the Immigration Department (IMI) page, captured on 16 October 2026. Where the texts differ, this guide gives both readings.
The 90-day rule
The guidelines page states that participants aged below 50 must be present in Malaysia for 90 cumulative days in one year. The category pages add that for participants aged 25 to 49 the principal and/or their dependants can fulfil the stay. The overview table states no minimum requirement to stay for age 50 and above.
| Principal age | Minimum days in Malaysia per year | Who can fulfil it |
|---|---|---|
| Below 50 (25 to 49) | 90 cumulative | Principal and/or dependants |
| 50 and above | No minimum | Not applicable |
For SEZ/SFZ, the mm2h.gov.my page gives the shared band as 25 to 49 and the MOTAC SEZ conditions and guide give 21 to 49, so confirm with the One Stop Centre if the principal is aged below 25.
The official pages state the 90 days as a programme condition. They do not link it to tax residence. The LHDN test for tax residence is a separate rule of 182 days or more.
Renewal before the full term
The guidelines page states that the MM2H sticker pass is renewable every five years or based on the participant's passport validity. The pass validity depends on the passport validity.
| Fee at sticker renewal | Amount |
|---|---|
| Visa fee | RM0 to RM50, by nationality |
| Fixed pass fee | RM500 per year |
The IMI page lists the renewal of the 5 years social visit pass (fixed deposit route) with a client charter of 30 working days. The MOTAC booklet gives the same charter for the application for extension of 5 years. The IMI document list is:
| Document | Note |
|---|---|
| Form IMM.55 | Available on the IMI website |
| Latest fixed deposit account statement | From the bank |
| Current account statement | From the bank |
| Original bank confirmation letter | Fixed deposit tagged under lien |
| Conditional approval letter | Original and copy |
| Health insurance | Original and copy, for a participant below 60 |
| Medical Form II | Original medical report |
The IMI page also lists an older renewal route based on offshore income. The MOTAC conditions of 14 June 2024 state that the offshore income condition is dropped for all categories, so ask the One Stop Centre which route applies to a pass issued under the 2024 conditions.
Renewal after the full term
The guidelines page states that the pass can be renewed for every 5 years after the maximum years of the programme are complete. The participant must produce a copy of a valid passport, a copy of the latest medical report and health insurance.
| Category | Pass term | Renewal fee after the term |
|---|---|---|
| Silver | 5 years | RM1,500 |
| Gold | 15 years | RM3,000 |
| Platinum | 20 years | RM5,000 |
| SEZ/SFZ | 10 years | RM300 |
The category pages and the MOTAC conditions give this fee "for principal and dependants", while the MOTAC guide table reads "for every principal and each dependant", so confirm with the One Stop Centre whether the fee applies once or to each person.
The guidelines page states that the renewal application goes to the One Stop Centre MM2H or the Immigration Department of Malaysia. The MOTAC guide names the One Stop Centre only, so ask the One Stop Centre which counter applies.
Business, investment and career by category
| Category | Business and investment | Career | MOTAC conditions, 14 June 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver | Not allowed | Not allowed | Not allowed; must apply for the relevant pass |
| Gold | Not allowed | Not allowed | Not allowed; must apply for the relevant pass |
| SEZ/SFZ | Not allowed | Not allowed | Not allowed; must apply for the relevant pass |
| Platinum | Permissible | Permissible | Allowed |
The Platinum category page states "Business/investment activities: Permissible" and "Career opportunities: Permissible". The MOTAC conditions mark both work and business as allowed for Platinum.
The IMI page describes an application for permission to part-time work. The documents listed are a completed DP10 Form, the participant's resume, a certified copy of the participant's passport, and a personal income tax relief letter from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) for a salary above RM10,000.00. This is an application route on the IMI page, not a right under the category pages, so confirm your category's position with the One Stop Centre before you accept any work.
Passport renewal and transfer of endorsement
The guidelines page states that if the passport expires before the end of the pass, the participant must renew the security sticker into the new passport. The IMI page lists the transfer of endorsement from an old passport to a new passport, and extension, with a client charter of 1 working day. The MOTAC booklet gives the same charter for the transfer of endorsement.
See the family guide for the conflict about dependant extensions at age 21.
Termination
The IMI page lists an application for termination of the pass with a client charter of 3 working days. The MOTAC booklet gives the same charter, counted from complete document submission. The captured texts give the charter and no document list, so get the current list from the One Stop Centre.
The IMI page states that the participant must maintain the fixed deposit balance until they terminate their participation. Withdrawal of the fixed deposit is a separate application with a client charter of 3 working days.
| Action | Client charter | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sticker renewal (fixed deposit route) | 30 working days | IMI page, MOTAC booklet |
| Transfer of endorsement to a new passport | 1 working day | IMI page, MOTAC booklet |
| Termination of pass | 3 working days | IMI page, MOTAC booklet |
| Fixed deposit withdrawal | 3 working days | IMI page, MOTAC booklet |
| Principal passed away | 3 working days | IMI page |
Death of the principal
The guidelines page states that the MM2H pass is transferable to the next-of-kin among the registered dependants on the death of the principal. The IMI page gives that application a client charter of 3 working days. See the family guide.
