MM2H Dependants 2026: Spouse, Children, Parents, Schools

Share

An MM2H participant can register a spouse, children below 21, single and unemployed children aged 21 to 34, medically certified disabled children of any age, parents and parents-in-law, and (Platinum only) a foreign maid, at a processing fee of RM2,500 for each dependant.

The four federal categories (Silver, Gold, Platinum and SEZ/SFZ) share one dependant list. This guide states that list, the fees, the schooling rule, the shared stay rule, the medical and insurance rules and the transfer rule on death. Every figure comes from the official MM2H pages, the MOTAC conditions dated 14 June 2024 and the Immigration Department (IMI) page, captured on 16 October 2026. Where the official texts differ, this guide gives both readings and tells you to confirm with the One Stop Centre.

Who counts as a dependant

The category pages on mm2h.gov.my list the same dependants for Silver, Gold and SEZ/SFZ. The Platinum page adds one more class.

Dependant class Condition Categories
Spouse (wife or husband) None stated All four
Biological, step and adopted children Below the age of 21 All four
Children aged 21 to 34 Unemployed and single while in Malaysia All four
Medically certified children with disabilities No age limit All four
Parents and/or parents-in-law None stated All four
Foreign maid Listed on the Platinum page only Platinum

The upper age for a child differs between official texts: mm2h.gov.my and the MOTAC conditions of 14 June 2024 say 34, and the MOTAC insights PDF says 35, so confirm the cap with the One Stop Centre before you include a child near that age.

The IMI page publishes a client charter for dependant passes. A social visit pass for a spouse or children (until 34 years old) has a client charter of 30 working days. A social visit pass for parents also has a client charter of 30 working days. The IMI document list for a spouse or child pass includes the original and a copy of the marriage or birth certificate, the passports of the participant and the dependant, a copy of the conditional approval letter, medical insurance for a dependant below 60, Medical Form II and a personal bond stamped RM10.00.

The IMI page also states a translation rule. All documents must be in English, translated by the Institute of Language and Literature or a Malaysian embassy or consulate. A marriage or birth certificate needs a certified true copy from a Malaysian embassy or consulate abroad, or a public notary in Malaysia.

The 21 to 34 condition

A child aged 21 to 34 stays a dependant only while unemployed and single in Malaysia. The MOTAC endorsement checklist asks for a statutory declaration of single and unemployed status in Malaysia. This declaration applies to dependants aged 21 to 34 only. The checklist warns that a false statement is an offence under section 56(1)(f) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. The penalty is a fine not above RM10,000, imprisonment not above 5 years, or both.

The IMI page carries a different rule on extension. The IMI page denies further extensions for dependant pass holders aged 21 and above. MOTAC permits single, unemployed dependant children aged 21 to 34. Confirm the applicable rule with the One Stop Centre.

Fees per dependant

Fee Principal Each dependant
Processing fee RM5,000 RM2,500
Participating fee (one-off) RM1,000 Silver, RM3,000 Gold, RM200,000 Platinum, RM1,000 SEZ/SFZ None

The category pages state that no participating fee applies to dependants. The MOTAC conditions of 14 June 2024 repeat this for each category. The processing fee row comes from the mm2h.gov.my overview table.

After the full term, the pass is renewable every 5 years. The renewal fee is RM1,500 (Silver), RM3,000 (Gold), RM5,000 (Platinum) and RM300 (SEZ/SFZ). The category pages and the MOTAC conditions give this fee "for principal and dependants", while the MOTAC guide table reads "for every principal and each dependant", so confirm with the One Stop Centre whether the fee applies once or per person.

Schooling to tertiary level

The category pages state that dependant children can pursue education up to tertiary level in any government-recognised higher learning institution in Malaysia. The same pages state that the child can use the existing MM2H pass or receives a Student Pass automatically.

The IMI page describes a separate permission-to-study application with a client charter of 14 working days, states that the applicant must be below 18 years old and says that a child above 18 needs to apply for a student pass, while the category pages say a Student Pass is given automatically, so confirm the study route for each child with the One Stop Centre. The MOTAC booklet also lists Permission to Study (Dependent) with a processing time of 14 working days.

The official pages publish no list of schools and no school fee. The category pages also state that long term medical treatment is allowed in Malaysia.

The 90-day rule shared with dependants

For a principal aged below 50, the rule is 90 cumulative days in Malaysia in one year. For participants aged 25 to 49 the category pages state that the principal and/or their dependants can fulfil the stay. For a principal aged 50 and above the overview states no minimum requirement to stay.

Principal age Days in Malaysia per year Who can fulfil it
25 to 49 90 cumulative Principal and/or dependants
50 and above No minimum Not applicable

For SEZ/SFZ, the mm2h.gov.my page gives the shared band as 25 to 49 and the MOTAC SEZ conditions and guide give 21 to 49, so confirm the band with the One Stop Centre if the principal is aged below 25.

Medical and insurance for dependants

A medical check-up at a clinic or hospital appointed by MOTAC is compulsory for the principal and every dependant after approval. MOTAC publishes a panel list of 23 clinics and 53 hospitals or medical centres, "among others". The official pages publish no check-up fee.

Health insurance with worldwide coverage, from a Malaysian or foreign insurer, applies to participants aged 60 and below. The IMI dependant pass list asks for medical insurance for a dependant below 60. The documents differ at exactly age 60: the MOTAC checklist and guide include age 60, and the MOTAC booklet and the IMI page exclude it. MOTAC lists 41 panel insurers, "among others". No premium is published.

Item Rule Who
Medical check-up Compulsory, MOTAC panel clinic or hospital, after approval Principal and every dependant
Health insurance Worldwide coverage, Malaysian or foreign insurer Age 60 and below (IMI: below 60)

If the principal dies

The guidelines page states that the MM2H pass is transferable to the next-of-kin among the registered dependants in the event of the death of the principal. The MOTAC conditions of 14 June 2024 state the same rule: the pass transfers to the next-of-kin who is a dependant named by the principal. The IMI page lists the application for a principal who passed away with a client charter of 3 working days. Get the current document list from the One Stop Centre.
